Umpires


Are you interested in becoming an umpire in the NASC Softball organization? If so, we think you’ve made the right call! Be sure to review our entrance requirements and registration policies before you register. Do you still have some questions about our course? NASC Softball Requirements to be an Umpire:

Age: 13 and older

Prior Experience: None required. Softball Ontario Level 1 Umpire Clinic required.  NASC hosts a Level 1 umpire clinic yearly.  Register online at SoftballOntario.ca for umpire clinics.

Physical Condition: Applicants must have the physical ability to participate in a program that requires frequent voice projection, stretching, bending, squatting, jogging, sprinting, and standing for periods of up to two hours.

Equipment Needed: Applicants will have to supply their own equipment, comprising of a face mask, chest protector, shin guards, counter and ball bag and a jock or jill.

Uniform: Applicants will be required to wear grey pants with black belt, black shoes, powder blue sport shirt and a black or navy blue hat.

Insurance:  Insurance is mandatory and all umpires must have it before taking the field. Completing a Level 1 umpire clinic with Softball Ontario provides the insurance coverage needed.

What is Expected: Applicants will strive to constantly improve their skills, will be team players and work with their partners. They will show up on time and will bring all of their equipment with them. They are to constantly show professionalism on and off the diamond. They are to learn the rules and to be approachable by coaches and players.
